'Guilty or incompetent': Rahul seeks Shah's response on police action on protesters

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of being either culpable or incompetent in the recent police crackdown on students protesting against the NEET paper leak at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. The students' demands were eventually met, leading to the resignation of education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

However, Rahul Gandhi's column in a daily newspaper continued to criticize the government's response to the police action against the protesters.

Referring to the use of force, including pellet guns, nail-studded lathis, tear gas, and physical assaults on students, Rahul questioned the Modi government's approach to young people demanding answers about their future. He specifically targeted Amit Shah, accusing him of remaining silent over the incident and accusing him of either authorizing the police action or being entirely incompetent.

Rahul demanded a Supreme Court-monitored inquiry into the incident and vowed to continue fighting until the responsible party is held accountable. He highlighted that power in the government is highly centralized, with both the Delhi Police and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) reporting directly to Amit Shah-led Union Home Ministry. He suggested that Shah either authorized the attack on students or had no idea it was taking place.

Rahul argued that his inaction in not addressing Parliament over the incident raises questions about his responsibility as Home Minister. He stated that either way, as Home Minister, he is ultimately responsible for what happened and must resign. Instead, his inaction suggests that he approves of the attack on students and has not ordered any inquiry or issued a statement.
