Glovo, a prominent multi-category technology firm, has unveiled its entry into the generative AI landscape through the introduction of its "Shopping Assistant" for ChatGPT and Claude platforms. This innovative feature enables users to engage in natural, conversational language to explore retail products, compare prices, and effortlessly place orders.

By transitioning from a search-based web to an intent-based web, Glovo's AI-driven assistant streamlines the shopping experience, eliminating the need for users to navigate app menus and filters.

Instead, customers can simply articulate their needs, such as requesting a "last-minute gift for a coffee lover under N50,000," and the AI assistant takes care of the rest. This includes conducting semantic searches, validating locations, and curating suitable products. Glovo's management team has emphasized that the company is focusing on the retail and grocery sectors for the initial rollout of this groundbreaking service.

This strategic decision capitalizes on the growing trend of utilizing AI for product research and aims to capitalize on the increased retail traffic globally driven by generative AI.

According to Glovo's Chief Technical Officer, Shiro Theuri, the primary objective of this initiative is to cater to customers' preferences by offering a wider range of choices and enhancing overall convenience.
