Ghana Youth Federation launches Eastern Region chapter with 79 youth leaders

The Ghana Youth Federation (GYF) inaugurated its Eastern Region branch on Thursday, August 6, 2026, with 79 youth leaders from the region's 33 districts. The launch at the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council in Koforidua marked a significant step in the organization's nationwide rollout of district and regional structures involving youth-led and youth-focused entities registered with the National Youth Authority (NYA).

The newly appointed interim regional executives pledged to lead the federation's mobilization efforts across the Eastern Region. Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey emphasized the importance of a unified youth voice in engaging with government and political actors, stating that a united front would amplify young people's influence.

President Sherif Ghali of the GYF hailed the launch as a crucial milestone, calling for unity among youth leaders to contribute to national development. The federation, established under the National Youth Authority Act, 2016 (Act 939), operates as a non-profit, non-partisan body representing youth organizations in Ghana. Organizers noted the launch as a strong indication of interest in a coordinated youth representation approach, with the next phase focusing on forming District Youth Assemblies across the region.

The Eastern Region launch follows the GYF's efforts to strengthen its national institutional presence, including the development of a National Strategic Action Plan and participation in youth-related governance structures. The federation is also advocating for greater youth involvement in national processes, including discussions on constitutional reform.
