Gaps found between final voter count, on-site tallies from local elections: data

Discrepancies have emerged between the final voter numbers and on-site tallies from local elections held on June 3, according to data obtained by a lawmaker. The discrepancies were discovered in 1,971 out of the total 3,558 neighborhoods nationwide, as reported by the National Election Commission (NEC) to Rep. Chung Choon-saeng of the Rebuilding Korea Party.

The NEC's data revealed that at least 100 people were missing or added in 29 neighborhoods, including in Seoul, Busan, and Gyeonggi Province. In response, investigators are investigating the possibility of election officials manipulating data post-voting. Under the current system, election officials manually verify the number of voters on the day of voting, which is then reported to the election watchdog. The final vote count is determined by the number of cast votes once voting concludes.
