Gachagua warns DCI boss Amin over Mt Elgon aspirant’s killing

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has criticized DCI Director Mohamed Amin over the handling of police and opposition figure cases, specifically citing the killing of Mt Elgon parliamentary hopeful Nathan Wasama. During a campaign tour of Narok East Constituency on August 10, 2026, Gachagua claimed Wasama had reported threats to his life to the police five times before his death.

Gachagua questioned why no action was taken despite these reports and called for investigations into the circumstances surrounding Wasama's death. He accused Amin of failing to ensure thorough investigations in cases involving police officers or opposition figures. Gachagua further warned that Amin would face investigations if the opposition defeats President William Ruto in the next year's General Election.

The incident occurred on August 6, 2026, when unknown gunmen attacked Wasama at his business premises in Bungoma County, inflicting multiple gunshot wounds. Wasama's widow and cousin have called for transparent investigations, with Bungoma County Police Commander Anderson Njagi confirming that detectives have launched inquiries into the motive behind the shooting.
