Free-to-play Division game launches on Steam to mixed reviews: 'Calling it slop disrespects actual slop'

Tom Clancy's The Division Resurgence, originally a mobile game, made its debut on PC via Steam in April. However, its arrival on the platform has not been met with much enthusiasm. Currently, the game holds a mixed review rating, with only 46% of reviews being positive. Players are grappling with a range of issues, including login problems, mouse bugs, and a combination of underwhelming rewards and overwhelming microtransactions.

One user review aptly coined the game as "slop," stating that such a description does a disservice to actual slop. Another critic went as far as to accuse the game of being "scummy" even for a free-to-play (F2P) title. They noted that the game's user interface (UI) and menus are unnecessarily complicated and overcomplicated.

Balancing and loot progression have also been cited as main issues. The game's loot is locked behind daily completions, limiting the number of opportunities players have to engage with these elements. Furthermore, the game's reward system and experience points (XP) scaling are deemed harsh, with players having to complete daily tasks only a few times a day to progress.

In essence, reviewers have likened the game to a daily login simulator rather than a looter-shooter. They recommend players stick to the mainline Division games, deeming this iteration not worth the time investment. The game maintains a third-person shooter perspective, set in New York, with missions taking place in iconic locations like Liberty Island and the New York Stock Exchange. Players earn loot, such as various tactical beanies and baseball caps, reflecting the game's stylized aesthetic.
