Former Dubai Zoo site gets construction contract for 90-home community

The site of the former Dubai Zoo in Jumeirah 1 is set to undergo a major construction phase, with the award of a new contract to UAE contractor Dutco Construction. The zoo, which permanently closed on November 5, 2017 after five decades of operation, transferred its animals and birds to Dubai Safari Park. Shamal Holding, the investment firm behind the project, announced the appointment of Dutco Construction as the main contractor for its residential development on the historic site.

This marks the beginning of the project's main construction works. The development will transform the former zoo into a low-rise residential community of 90 homes, preserving elements of its history and character. Shamal Holding, acting as the long-term investor, retains ownership of the community and will offer all homes for premium leasing, emphasizing long-term stewardship and resident experience.

The project includes landscaped courtyards, green spaces, a central park, mature trees from the former zoo, and shared facilities such as a clubhouse, wellness area, playground, family pool, lounge, and gym. Walkability is a key feature, with the community designed to ensure daily needs and shared spaces are easily accessible. Dutco Construction, a leading UAE contractor, will deliver the main construction works, working alongside Shamal Holding, who previously collaborated on infrastructure projects at Dubai Harbour and Dubai Harbour Marinas.
