Forest owner Marinakis sues Palace over gun banner

Evangelos Marinakis, owner of Nottingham Forest, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Crystal Palace. The claim alleges that fans at Selhurst Park displayed a banner depicting Marinakis with a gun pointed at midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White during a 1-1 Premier League draw between the two teams last August. The banner read, "Mr Marinakis is not involved in blackmail, match-fixing, drug trafficking or corruption."

Marinakis has repeatedly denied any involvement in such activities. In November 2025, the Football Association charged Crystal Palace for failing to prevent improper, offensive, abusive, or provocative behavior by supporters, though the banner was not directly cited as the reason for the charge. England international Gibbs-White nearly left Forest last summer after Tottenham triggered a £60 million release clause but opted to sign a new contract with Nottingham Forest.

He later discussed his decision in an interview alongside Marinakis. Forest secured their place in the Europa League last season after Palace were relegated due to breaking Uefa's multi-club ownership rules. BBC Sport has contacted Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest for their responses.
