FM affirms necessity of continuing efforts aimed to stabilize Gaza

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, spoke on Sunday, August 9, 2026, with High Representative for Gaza, Nickolay Mladenov, on the phone. The conversation centered around the ongoing attempts to stabilize the Gaza Strip and progress towards the next phase of the peace plan. This call was part of a series of discussions aimed at monitoring the situation in Gaza and implementing the US president's peace plan.

Abdelatty underscored the necessity of adhering to all commitments made under the roadmap for Gaza peace plan adherence. This includes ensuring the safe and continuous delivery of humanitarian aid, completing the Israeli withdrawal, and paving the way for the second phase of the peace plan. Both parties engaged in talks about the preparations for the next phase of the plan.

The Egyptian diplomat highlighted the importance of enabling the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) to take on its temporary duties within the Strip. Additionally, Abdelatty advocated for the deployment of the International Stabilization Force to oversee the ceasefire, support security during the transitional period, and maintain Palestinian territorial unity. This support should continue until the Palestinian National Authority assumes full responsibility for Gaza and the West Bank.

Abdelatty stressed that all parties must meet their obligations and avoid actions that could hinder implementation or impede progress. The Foreign Minister's remarks appeared on the Egypt Independent website.
