Final Fantasy VII fans believe a remake of the game Dirge of Cerberus may be on the way after Japanese rockstar Gackt shared a photo of himself cosplaying as Genesis, a character he voiced in the Japanese dubs of Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus. Gackt's Instagram post, shared on August 6, 2026, showed him dressed as Genesis with his song Redemption playing in the background, which was the official theme song of Dirge of Cerberus.

The post has left fans speculating about a potential remake of the game, which is one of the few remaining Final Fantasy VII spinoffs without an official remake. Fan 'nibelbound' noticed a pattern in Gackt's social media activity, coinciding with his voice recordings for Crisis Core's remake. Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi has hinted at connecting all the Final Fantasy VII spinoffs, including Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus, into the game's ending.
