Family speaks out after the untimely death of Cameron Waldeck-Cooks

The family of 17-year-old Cameron Waldeck-Cooks has spoken out after her untimely death at a lodge in Sabie, Mpumalanga. Cameron and her former schoolmate, 19-year-old Ethan Coetzee, were found dead in a lodge room on Monday, August 3. According to Mpumalanga SAPS spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo, the bodies of the two teenagers were discovered by lodge staff following a complaint about two people who had died at the premises.

Both Cameron and Coetzee were pronounced dead at the scene, although post-mortem examinations revealed that Cameron had allegedly been strangled, while Coetzee allegedly took his own life.

Cameron's brother, Ethan, has broken his silence on the matter, expressing his disbelief at the circumstances surrounding his sister's death. In a social media post, he wrote that his sister did not pass away peacefully, describing her lifeless body covered in injuries across various parts of her body. He went on to discuss his relationship with Coetzee, praising the teenager's kindness and respect towards him and acknowledging his positive influence on Ethan's family.

However, Ethan expressed that these acts of kindness mean nothing now, as his sister's life was taken away from her. He also criticized the insensitive headlines published about his sister, stating that seeing her photograph alongside Coetzee's was difficult to accept. Ethan thanked those who had shown kindness and support to his family during this difficult time. Investigations into the deaths are ongoing.
