Family anxious as teen cyclist remains hospitalised after viral Kuantan crash

Kuantan, Malaysia, on August 4th saw a tragic accident involving a teenage cyclist, Ahmad Raqin Zharfan Abdullah, 15, who was critically injured after a car lost control and collided with him. The incident occurred on Jalan Permatang Badak. Ahmad Raqin, a Form Three student at SMK Sungai Isap, was hospitalized at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) with severe injuries including a broken jaw, a torn cheek, cuts on his left eyelid, and a head injury from broken glass.

His younger brother, Ahmad Ezumy, 26, is anxiously awaiting his brother's recovery, stating that his son was unconscious following the crash but regained consciousness on August 6. Ahmad Raqin is currently under observation. His brother recounted that their mother was deeply saddened by the incident and voiced concerns about the time it would take for him to recover and return to his normal life.

Ahmad Raqin required a metal plate insertion into his jaw, with further surgeries planned for his torn cheek, injured left eye, and head cuts. The driver of the car, a 20-year-old college student, escaped without injury, while his 14-year-old sibling sustained minor injuries. The police are investigating the incident under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act, which addresses careless and inconsiderate driving, carrying a maximum fine and potential imprisonment.
