Ex-Cambridge professor Jason Arday cancels live event after plagiarism row

Jason Arday, the former Cambridge professor, has canceled a planned appearance at the Royal Geographical Society's conference in London next month. This decision comes after he resigned from his position at Cambridge due to allegations of plagiarism and questions about his achievements. The Royal Geographical Society stated that the cancellation was at the request of the speaker.

Arday is also no longer listed on the websites for two other upcoming events scheduled for September and October. He was originally set to participate in a "fireside chat" at the Royal Geographical Society's conference on September 2nd. The shop where the event was scheduled in Edinburgh has declined to comment on the cancellation.

Arday was also scheduled to be a guest at the Arizona Women's Board Authors' Luncheon on October 24th, but has been removed from the event's website. He remains scheduled to speak at the Stroud Book Festival in Gloucestershire in November. Despite admitting to errors in his early work, Arday has stated he is not a "liar" and that the recent scrutiny has led to an "unrelenting level of public scrutiny and personal attack."

The publisher of his memoir, "Great and Unfortunate Things," is proceeding with its release in the US and UK as planned, despite the plagiarism allegations and doubts about certain aspects of his life story. However, Arday resigned from his position at Cambridge due to the "profound toll" the scrutiny had taken on him and his loved ones.

He emphasized that his resignation should not be seen as an acceptance of the narratives surrounding him.
