Driver dies days after assault by group of kanwariyas in Uttar Pradesh; FIRs give conflicting accounts

A 24-year-old driver, Mohd Azeem, died on August 4 after being allegedly assaulted by a group of kanwariyas in Uttar Pradesh. Hailing from Moradabad, Azeem was driving a mini-truck towards Delhi for his daily work when a collision occurred with an autorickshaw in Hapur district on July 31. The autorickshaw was driven by 19-year-old Mohd Farman and carrying several passengers, who were reportedly kanwariyas.

Following the collision, the passengers allegedly assaulted Azeem, leading to his severe injuries. Azeem was then taken to a nursing home in Garhmukhteshwar and subsequently to a higher medical centre in Meerut, where he slipped into a coma and died without responding to treatment. His father claimed that Azeem was the sole breadwinner of a family of five, and that he is survived by his wife, a one-year-old son, and his elderly parents.

On the other hand, the Hapur police stated that the autorickshaw driver, Farman, also sustained serious injuries and is currently in a critical condition. Reports indicate that Farman's father lodged a complaint alleging that Azeem had attacked him twice, running over him and driving over his abdomen and chest before fleeing the scene.

However, as Azeem has passed away, the police are now working on filing a closure report on his alleged assault case.
