Disabled activists' protest temporarily disrupts Yongsan Station

A disability rights advocacy group caused a brief disruption at a Seoul subway station on Monday, temporarily halting train operations at Yongsan Station on Subway Line 1. Solidarity Against Disability Discrimination members staged the protest, which began at 8 a.m., demanding increased government funding for disabled individuals and their mobility rights for the following year's budget.

Wheelchair-bound activists deliberately boarded and disembarked from trains or intentionally delayed boarding the trains. In response, KORAIL, the train operator, halted northbound trains heading towards downtown Seoul at Yongsan Station for approximately two hours, from 8:10 a.m. to 10:06 a.m., causing inconvenience for commuters.

By around 9 a.m., Hyehwa Station's operations returned to normal as all activists had already departed by train. The advocacy group has threatened to repeat the protest at Hyehwa Station every Monday until August 24. Additionally, they organized a similar demonstration at Noryangjin Station on Subway Line 1 in the southern part of Seoul.
