Deepfakes, the impressive technology that raises questions about its scope of influence. When I first delved into Computer Science, I envisioned a significant portion of my education centered around systems, programming, and understanding how technology operates. However, a pivotal academic project shifted my perspective, focusing on the repercussions of the technology we create and utilize.

Deepfakes were my initial point of interest, and through research, I realized that the discussion extends far beyond merely generating false images or videos using Artificial Intelligence. The issue lies not just in the technology itself, but in its applications. While AI can have beneficial uses in entertainment, education, and audiovisual production, the problem arises when it's employed to deceive.

An image, voice, or video can appear so authentic that it convinces people of events that never occurred, leading to potential problems such as scams, misinformation, unauthorized use of others' images, reputational damage, and unauthorized content creation. It's at this point that I began to understand a fundamental truth: not every technically feasible idea should be pursued without boundaries.

Transparency also plays a crucial role. One of the most striking aspects of my project was the challenge of ordinary individuals identifying when content was produced or altered by Artificial Intelligence. Consequently, I explored content identification mechanisms for AI-generated material, reporting systems, data protection, and increased platform responsibility.

I also engaged with issues related to the General Data Protection Regulation (LGPD), governance, transparency, and accountability in AI usage. The project altered my viewpoint on several fronts. As a novice in Computer Science, I still have much to learn technically, but this work has subtly changed how I perceive the field. Before I would simply ponder, "Is it possible to develop this?"

I must now also ask, "What consequences might arise if this technology is used incorrectly?" After all, technology involves people, and I believe understanding this from the outset is as vital as mastering the basics of coding.
