Cross River deputy governor, Odey, survives auto crash, vehicles damaged

In Ugep, a local government area within Cross River State, Deputy Governor Dr Peter Odey emerged unharmed from a vehicle collision on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred as he and his entourage made their way back to Calabar from Obanliku Local Government Area, where they had participated in a discussion about the potential lease of the Obudu Ranch Resort.

Though Odey's health status was not independently verified at the time, some individuals in his convoy sustained injuries during the mishap. A government house press bus carrying representatives and staff from the deputy governor's office veered off-course near an Army checkpoint and collided with three sandbag barricades. One individual's leg was reportedly injured, while another suffered a bleeding nose.

The severity of these injuries awaited medical examination. The crash was the latest in a series involving Odey's convoy over the past two months, sparking worries about the safety of the vehicles utilized for official travel. It was also discovered that the Office of the Deputy Governor's fleet had been diminished, with vehicles from the governor's convoy being utilized when required.

The Office of the Deputy Governor declined to comment on the matter when contacted. Authorities were still gathering information regarding the accident and the status of those affected.
