CP NewsAlert: Montreal man arrested over alleged death threat against PM Carney

OTTAWA - A Montreal man, Marc Porlier, has been arrested and charged with allegedly making death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney, according to the RCMP. Porlier, 51, is accused of sending threatening emails to a Canadian senator and other unnamed individuals. The Federal Policing Eastern Region of the RCMP initiated an investigation into the matter last week. Porlier appeared in court in Montreal on Saturday.

The Prime Minister's Office stated that Carney is currently on a "reduced schedule" while traveling in Italy for the week. In recent years, police have warned of an increase in threats directed at prominent politicians and government officials. Several Canadians have been arrested for making threats against former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
