‘Collectively, we are RSS Singapore’: Workers’ Party chief Pritam Singh calls for shared responsibility in National Day message

Singapore's Workers' Party chief, Pritam Singh, emphasized the importance of shared responsibility as he addressed the nation during the National Day message. Singing likened the country to a shared vessel, asserting that "Collectively, we are RSS Singapore." He further explained that the nation's character is reflected not only through government policies but also in the everyday actions of people from diverse backgrounds.

Singh highlighted examples of shared responsibility, such as neighbors looking out for one another, essential workers persevering through challenging conditions, and volunteers contributing to their communities. He stated, "Singapore is strongest when all who call it home, whatever their background, recognise our common responsibility to one another."

Turning his attention to economic concerns, Singh reiterated the Workers' Party's call for stronger social safety nets. He argued that support should be in the form of structural measures rather than temporary measures. Singh emphasized that Singaporeans who face job loss should receive meaningful support before and after retrenchment, as well as fair wages and dignified work environments.

He also paid tribute to the pioneer generation, who built the nation through their resolve and determination. Singh urged the recognition of caregivers, lower-income families living with dignity in their later years, and people with disabilities who contribute as integral members of the community. He concluded, "Every Singaporean should know that they are valued and that no one must navigate life’s journey alone."
