CM to ensure clean drinking water for every person

LAHORE, Punjab: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif pledged on Monday to guarantee clean drinking water for every resident and family under the province's water supply scheme. In a special meeting to assess ongoing initiatives, the CM endorsed a pilot program for delivering potable tap water to specific regions. Current sources of safe drinking water comprise filtration plants, bottled water providers, and water fountains.

Six districts from across South, Central, and North Punjab—Rajanpur, Lahore, Faisalabad, Chakwal, Rawalpindi, and Murree/Kotli Sattian—were chosen for the pilot. The CM instructed officials to consult local authorities before launching the pilot. Low-income families were given top priority, and the government promised water delivery to regions without safe water.

In water-scarce areas, tankers and water bowers would provide additional water. The CM personally checked on clean drinking water availability in Rajanpur and Chakwal districts. The discussion covered various implementation methods, including public-private partnerships. The CM emphasized prioritizing bottled water plant capacity usage and praised bottled water delivery to remote Koh-e-Suleman areas.

The CM stressed the utmost importance of ensuring safe drinking water, especially for underserved communities.
