Britain’s Amy Hunt reveals she had ‘big premonition’ ahead of winning 100m gold at European Championships

British athlete Amy Hunt claimed she experienced a significant premonition before winning the 100 meters gold at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. The 24-year-old, a recent Cambridge English literature graduate, described the triumph as a "coming of age" moment, eliciting cheers from the home audience as she crossed the finish line in exactly 11 seconds.

The victory follows a silver medal finish in the same race at the Commonwealth Games, just two weeks prior. This win marks the beginning of Hunt's ambitious campaign to secure four gold medals during the week, including taking home titles in the 200m, mixed relay, and women's 4x100m relays. She reiterated her belief in her abilities, quoting a song from the film High School Musical, stating her intention to achieve everything she knows she can in her sport.

Hunt had an overwhelming feeling of positivity, recalling her previous successes at English Schools and as a young athlete in her hometown of Newark. The 100m medallist expressed that this victory was a definitive coming of age, and she is now fully established in her track career. She secured two 100m medals in just two weeks, one more sub-11-second performance, and is now officially a 100m medallist.

The British quartet of Ben Jefferies, Charlotte Henrich, Toby Harries, and Yemi Mary John earned silver in the 4x400m relay, while Poland's Ewa Swoboda took the second spot, and home runner Dina Asher-Smith concluded the podium in third place. Just before the race, Jakob Ingebrigtsen made a remarkable return from an 11-month layoff, securing gold in the 5000m event.

The two-time Olympic and world champion had been preparing for the Birmingham event, despite undergoing Achilles surgery in February to address an ongoing issue.
