Bomb threat prompts Halifax police to evacuate several downtown streets

On Monday morning, a bomb threat in Halifax led police to evacuate several downtown streets and buildings near the waterfront for several hours. The incident began around 9 a.m. when Halifax Regional Police stated that a man was in custody for making threats, and a parkade adjacent to the Purdy’s Wharf office tower complex was evacuated due to a suspicious vehicle.

Just an hour later, police expanded their evacuation order to include two office towers and additional nearby structures and roads. At 10:30 a.m., an emergency alert confirmed the bomb threat and discovery of the suspicious vehicle, leading to the street closures and evacuations near Upper Water Street.

Photos circulating on social media depicted an individual wearing what seemed to be bomb disposal gear entering the parkade. By 2 p.m., Halifax police declared that the threat had been resolved and all affected businesses and roads could be reopened, although no further information was provided.
