Barbed wire fences, angry students: What Express saw at Jharkhand protest

Thousands of students marched towards the Jharkhand Assembly in Ranchi on Monday, protesting alleged irregularities in state recruitment exams and demanding a CBI investigation. The protest began near the old Assembly complex and saw protesters breach multiple layers of police barricades as they moved towards the new Vidhan Sabha.

The Jharkhand government agreed to cancel three exams and allow an Enforcement Directorate probe into financial irregularities linked to the exams. Police deployed heavy security, including barbed wire and water cannons, along the protesters' route. Despite lathicharge, tear gas, and injuries sustained by some students, a man was spotted raising the national flag and carrying a portrait of former Jharkhand CM Shibu Soren. Almost all the students reached the Vidhan Sabha, where they continued their demonstration.
