Ball wants improvement as Torquay start with draw

Torquay United manager Jimmy Ball starts his maiden full season with the club after taking over in March. In their National League South opener against Horsham, the Gulls secured a 1-1 draw. Deon Moore gave Torquay the lead in the 13th minute, but Horsham's Greg Luer equalised nine minutes into the second half. A headed attempt by Torquay debutant Isaac Westendorf was ruled out due to Dom Bernard's cross going out of play.

Ball praised his team's strong performance in the first half, stating they "restricted them to very, very, very little" and were "causing problems." However, he admitted that the second-half display fell short of their capabilities. Torquay struggled to maintain possession and create scoring opportunities, with the manager describing the second half as "bitty" and disappointing.

He emphasized the need for the team to take more opportunities, as they create plenty, and vowed to work on improving in future matches. Ball expressed confidence in the group of players and their potential for progression.
