Apple tests China's CXMT memory chips for iPhones and MacBooks: Report

Apple is reportedly testing memory chips from China's CXMT, the largest chipmaker in China by market value, to address a component shortage driven by the AI boom, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal. The tech giant has held preliminary discussions with CXMT, aiming to incorporate the chips into select devices sold in China.

However, Reuters could not independently confirm the details of the report. Apple and CXMT have declined to comment on the matter when approached by Reuters. Earlier, Reuters exclusively reported that CXMT was contemplating the construction of a second memory-chip plant in Beijing to increase production capacity. Meanwhile, laptop manufacturers HP and Acer have already begun integrating CXMT memory chips into their devices sold outside the U.S. to mitigate supply constraints.
