Angélique Kidjo to make history as first African musician to receive Hollywood Walk of Fame star

Beninese music sensation Angélique Kidjo is poised to shatter records by becoming the first African artist and first Black African performer to grace the revered Hollywood Walk of Fame. This monumental accolade will place her among the esteemed 2,854 stars illuminating the boulevard, marking a significant milestone in a career spanning more than four decades.

Kidjo's star unveiling is set to grace the 7011 Hollywood Boulevard on August 18 at 11:30 a.m. PT, alongside luminaries such as Oscar-nominee Willem Dafoe and Grammy- and Primetime Emmy-nominee Harvey Mason Jr. With her induction, Kidjo joins a select cadre of performers whose work has left an indelible imprint on global pop culture.

While the Walk of Fame has previously honored artists from various walks of life, Kidjo's induction holds special significance for Africa, as she will become the second African-born figure represented on the boulevard, following South African actress Charlize Theron. However, Kidjo's achievement transcends her African roots, as she is the first to represent African music on the Walk of Fame.

Throughout her illustrious career, Kidjo has been a bridge between African musical traditions and global sounds, seamlessly blending West African influences with jazz, funk, soul, Latin music, and contemporary pop.
