Amit Shah will speak on student protest crackdown, says Rijiju but on one condition

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced on Monday that Home Minister Amit Shah is willing to address the student protest crackdown in Parliament, provided opposition members refrain from disrupting proceedings, according to ANI. Rijiju emphasized the importance of an uninterrupted parliamentary process, urging the opposition to give the government's response its due attention before raising additional issues.

He stated that the opposition must listen to the Home Minister's reply and ensure a comprehensive discussion. The remarks came after Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the Centre over police actions during the July 20 student protests at Jantar Mantar, demanding a court-monitored probe into the use of pellet guns, nail-studded batons, and tear gas shells against peaceful student protesters.

The government's response to the violence has been marked by silence, with nearly 20 days having passed since the incident, and Amit Shah failing to appear in Parliament to discuss the matter. Opposition proposals for a discussion have consistently been rejected, leading to allegations of negligence or incompetence. The Lok Sabha witnessed further disruptions as opposition MPs protested over other issues, including the theft of donations meant for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Four key Bills were introduced amidst the turmoil, but the Monsoon Session proceedings have been marred by repeated disruptions, with only six out of eight Bills being passed without debate.
