Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez freezing her eggs and hasn’t ‘ruled out’ presidential run

New York Democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has disclosed her decision to freeze her eggs and shared the initial stages of the procedure on social media. The 36-year-old posted videos on Sunday, just before stating to ABC News This Week that she had not "ruled out the possibility" of running for president. In the videos, Ocasio-Cortez demonstrates an injection, explains tips she has learned, and discusses the costs, clinical procedures, storage, and how fertility care functions under the US's "broken" medical system.

In an ABC News interview, she emphasized her intention to "normalize" discussions about the process, particularly in the current political climate. She highlighted the administration's denial of reproductive care to women, including abortion rights and healthy pregnancies. When asked about her potential presidential run in the 2028 elections, Ocasio-Cortez initially avoided a direct answer, expressing her focus on the upcoming midterms where she is contesting for Congress.

However, she acknowledged being open to the idea and humbled by the support she has received. She also mentioned the possibility of a Senate run against Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. The midterms, which take place every two years and determine one-third of the Senate seats, are scheduled for early November.
