AKSA Energy case: Emails, names of recipients key to proving Ghanaian officials’ involvement – Kpebu

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu stated that email correspondence and the identification of individuals who allegedly received funds could serve as crucial evidence in determining if Ghanaian public officials were involved in the alleged bribery scheme surrounding the AKSA Energy deal. At a recent interview on Joy FM’s Top Story, Kpebu emphasized that the former Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) Managing Director, Asante Kwaku Berko, should identify the recipients of the alleged payments to provide the strongest evidence.

He also highlighted emails mentioned in the US indictment as another potential source of evidence, explaining that Ghanaian investigators could request access to the emails and use them to establish further connections. Kpebu expressed hope that Berko, a Ghanaian citizen, would cooperate with Ghanaian authorities during the ongoing investigations, noting that Article 41 of the country's 1992 Constitution requires citizens to aid in combating corruption and misuse of public funds.

Ultimately, the strength and quality of the evidence will determine the success of implicating or prosecuting any individual.
