After 107 days, Hyderabad man gets bail in case of spreading ‘misleading’ info about PM on social media

A Hyderabad man, Hassan Mohiuddin Siddiqi, was granted bail after 107 days of detention in a case involving the alleged spreading of "misleading and scandalous" information about Prime Minister Narendra Modi via his X account. Siddiqi, 42, was arrested on April 25, following an FIR registered on April 19 at Sector 26 police station.

The court dismissed his first bail application on May 25. The prosecution alleged that Siddiqi, in criminal conspiracy, circulated misleading information with the intent to damage the Prime Minister's dignity and reputation, causing disharmony and public mischief. Siddiqi's defense argued that the allegations were false and that the investigation was complete, with only certain sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Information Technology Act remaining in the final charge sheet.

The court noted that the circumstances had changed, including the lapse of three months since the earlier bail application was dismissed, and that Siddiqi had expressed willingness to refrain from using his X account during the trial.
