9-year-old tahfiz student claims senior punched, kicked him

In Alor Star, a nine-year-old tahfiz school student accused a senior student of punching and kicking him, resulting in facial and body bruises. The incident only came to light when the boy's father, Shamsul Azrin Man, 45, picked him up from the school for a holiday on July 30. Initially, the boy told his parents that his bruised face was due to a fall.

However, after further questioning, he admitted that the senior student had punched him while they were cleaning tables in the canteen the previous day. He also stated that the senior student had kicked him in the back, leaving bruises. Upon discovering the incident, Shamsul Azrin contacted an ustaz at the tahfiz school, but the ustaz claimed to be unaware of it.

Shamsul and his wife subsequently reported the incident to the police and took their son to the hospital for a medical examination. The examination revealed bruising but no severe injuries, such as broken bones. Nevertheless, the boy is now traumatized and unwilling to return to the tahfiz school. Shamsul expressed his sadness, as his son had initially wanted to study at the tahfiz school to become an ustaz.

Despite the unexpected incident, Shamsul remains hopeful that his son will still pursue his goal of becoming an ustaz. The Kota Setar district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Syed Basri Syed Ali, confirmed that the case is under investigation under Section 323 of the Penal Code. The police have recorded the 15-year-old senior student's statement, and they are awaiting the victim's medical report from the doctor.
