8 injured in firing along Assam-Arunachal border, Himanta calls it local issue

At least 11 villagers in Assam were wounded, with three in critical condition, after being shot by unidentified individuals along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border on Monday morning. The dispute over land encroachment, which has caused localized clashes, is believed to have triggered the incident. Police are investigating the situation and have deployed a large force to prevent further escalation.

The incident occurred in the Mingmang Badati area under the Gogamukh Revenue Circle of Dhemaji district. A local resident mentioned that 18 people were working in the area when the armed men arrived, but eight or nine managed to escape unharmed. Sudhakar Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police of Dhemaji district, confirmed that 11 locals were injured and 3 of them were taken to Assam Medical College & Hospital in Dibrugarh.

The situation is now under control, according to the police. Local residents alleged repeated attempts by border residents from Arunachal Pradesh to encroach on land in Assam, and violence was triggered after several days of tension. Assam police stated that the claims have not been verified and are currently investigating the matter.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma acknowledged the incident and instructed the Director General of Police and other senior officials to intervene and investigate, claiming it to be a local land dispute issue and not a matter between the two states.
