5,050 codeine syrup bottles seized in Ahmedabad

In Ahmedabad, the Special Operations Group (SOG) has made a significant seizure of 5,050 bottles of codeine syrup, prompting legal action under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The investigation was sparked by intelligence suggesting an unlicensed supplier was distributing the syrup to various North Indian states.

Officials revealed that the company in question had dispatched consignments to a Mizoram-based recipient firm, which was also found to be without a valid licence. The SOG uncovered that the recipient company lacked the required license to receive or deal in the medicines, leading to charges against both parties under the NDPS Act.

A total of 5,050 bottles were seized, packed in 34 cartons. The Crime Branch is now probing the alleged distribution network to determine its origins, identify additional involved parties, and gauge the scale of the alleged distribution across multiple states. The owners of the company, Hiren Kantilal Patel and Parsh Vora, have been identified, but authorities are continuing to investigate the roles of other individuals and entities linked to the supply chain.

Further inquiries are underway to trace the source of the medicines, map the entire distribution network, and establish the total quantity of codeine syrup allegedly supplied to other states.
