While the compensation for senior chief of staffs can easily surpass six figures, with some positions even exceeding $400,000, the most valuable aspect of the job lies in the daily interaction with top executives.

Chief of staffs work closely with CEOs or other high-ranking officials, assisting in decision-making, translating strategy into action, and coordinating projects across various departments. They may also help prepare board materials, attend crucial meetings, and monitor company priorities. This level of access offers a unique perspective on how a company functions, a perspective that is difficult to obtain through a conventional corporate career path.

McKinsey's analysis of roughly 250 chiefs of staff revealed that the median tenure in the role was just 2.3 years, with two-thirds of them moving into higher-level positions within the company.
