Yemen's Houthis say they attacked Saudi Aramco Jazan refinery, fire extinguished

Yemeni Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for an attack on Saudi Aramco's Jazan refinery on Sunday, following Saudi Arabia's recent defense pact with Turkey and Pakistan. The Saudi energy ministry reported a fire at the refinery, which was later extinguished, although the cause of the fire remains undisclosed. The refinery, located in southwestern Saudi Arabia, processes 400,000 barrels of crude oil daily.

No casualties were reported. The Houthis targeted the refinery using a drone, as stated in a military spokesperson's post on X. Aramco had previously targeted by Houthi rebels at Jazan and Yanbu on the Red Sea. Iran and its allies, including Shia Muslim armed groups, have been engaging in attacks on Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states since the US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28.

Aramco's CEO, Amin Nasser, stated that recent attacks on the company's facilities, the world's largest oil exporter, have caused some production interruptions, but he is confident that operations can be restored promptly. Nasser added that the attacks have had no significant operational or financial impact. The escalation prompted Saudi Arabia to form an alliance with Turkey and Pakistan on July 27, aiming to enhance collective deterrence against any act of aggression.
