‘Why aren’t you where you should be?’: Govinda recalls first meeting with Rajesh Khanna

Renowned actor Govinda recently recalled his first encounter with Bollywood legend Rajesh Khanna. The veteran indicated that both men, widely recognized as superstars, never actively sought fame or constructed an image for themselves. Instead, they allowed their work to generate their stardom, as they meticulously planned and executed their projects.

During an interview with ANI, Govinda revealed that when Khanna famously asked him, "Why aren't you where you should be?" during filming of David Dhawan's Swarg (1990), Govinda responded that destiny had predetermined their journey. The actor emphasized that they possessed a divine presence, a quality that set them apart. Govinda also spoke of the passing of Rajesh Khanna, who died in 2012, and Dharmendra, who passed away in 2025, acknowledging his own career setbacks, but expressing gratitude for the support and affection he received from these great actors.
