Ukraine strikes Russian missile system used in attack the previous day, Madyar says

On the night of August 8, Ukrainian drones targeted an S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile launch pad in Russia's Krasnodar region, according to Robert Brovdi, known as Madyar. The system had fired six missiles at Ukraine earlier that morning. The S-400 position in Gelendzhik was set ablaze and malfunctioned for three hours after the attack, which Madyar reported.

The S-400, originally designed for air defense, is increasingly being repurposed for offensive operations by Russia due to Ukraine's limited interceptor missiles. Despite being less accurate and lethal, these systems still pose a threat to civilian infrastructure, especially when launched against densely populated areas, as missile expert Fabian Hoffmann noted.

Madyar also mentioned that Ukrainian drone forces had recently destroyed multiple air defense systems in Russia's Krasnodar Krai and Rostov region, along with two radar stations in the Rostov region. By systematically targeting Russian air defense systems, Ukraine reduces Moscow's ability to control airspace, enabling successful attacks on other military and logistics targets across the country.

Additionally, Madyar claimed that three vessels of the Russian shadow fleet were intercepted in the Black Sea, including one oil tanker and two cargo ships. Since declaring shadow fleet vessels to be military targets on July 1, Ukraine has intensified its attacks and interceptions against these vessels, with support from the EU and specific European countries.

These actions have been complemented by new sanctions imposed by the bloc and the UK against ships aiding Russia in evading sanctions.
