UDA-ODM retreat: Ruto’s re-election bid tops agenda

Three political parties - United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), and the incumbent President William Ruto's administration - have convened a three-day retreat in Naivasha to strategize for the 2027 General Elections. The gathering, which commenced on August 9, will see leaders from various levels of government, including governors, deputy governors, MPs, senators, cabinet secretaries, and house speakers, convene to assess the broad-based government arrangement and discuss their plans to secure victory.

At the core of these discussions is President Ruto's re-election bid, with party leaders acknowledging that ensuring his successful run is a shared responsibility. Samuel Atandi, an MP and chair of the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee, urged Kenyans to remain supportive of the coalition, dismissing concerns over internal divisions within ODM.

Despite the departure of a few members, Atandi remains confident in the coalition's strength and readiness to win the upcoming elections. The retreat is seen as an opportunity to cement the broad-based government's unity, reaffirm their commitment to President Ruto, and prepare for the upcoming election.
