TVK cadre’s march towards Fort St. George stopped by police in Vellore

On Sunday, a large number of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) cadres and supporters attempted to march from Vellore Fort to Fort St. George in Chennai, igniting concerns among local authorities. The activists, led by Vellore district secretary Velmurugan, aimed to commemorate the 1806 Vellore Sepoy Revolt and assert that TVK founder president C. Joseph Vijay would serve as the state's permanent Chief Minister.

However, their unauthorized demonstration was swiftly halted by the district police due to the potential for significant traffic disruption and public nuisance.

At around 10 a.m., Velmurugan and his supporters congregated in front of the fort complex, holding a 'Sengol Sceptre.' Recognizing the illegal nature of the march, police officers immediately erected barricades to prevent the procession from advancing towards Chennai. The traffic on the route was severely impacted, forcing ambulances and government buses to experience lengthy delays.

Motorists expressed their disapproval of such unauthorized rallies and marches, emphasizing the necessity of preventing events that could cause public inconvenience.

Local authorities have vowed to take strict action against the TVK organizers, including Velmurugan, should they be found responsible for the illegal gathering. The police assured that legal consequences await those involved in organizing such unauthorized events.
