Tinubu’s economy pushing homes, cars beyond reach — Atiku

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President, has criticized President Bola Tinubu's government for worsening the purchasing power of Nigerians, rendering homes, cars, and basic household assets unaffordable. In a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the latest Central Bank of Nigeria Household Expectations Survey, which showed a decline in the willingness to purchase vehicles, consumer durables, and buildings, was a "damning verdict" on the government's economic policies.

The survey revealed that Nigerians are being priced out of decent living, with the cost of preparing jollof rice, a staple meal, consuming more than 40% of a minimum-wage worker's monthly income before considering other essentials like rent, transportation, electricity, school fees, and healthcare. Atiku argued that the government's focus on headline indicators like GDP growth and foreign reserves did not address the declining purchasing power of households, which was crucial for businesses, economic growth, and citizens' overall well-being.
