‘Thought I’d meet her again’: Govinda recalls walking into Narmada River after mother’s death

Sunita Ahuja has repeatedly expressed her belief that, in her next life, she would hope to have her son Govinda as her son, due to his deep affection for their mother, Nirmala Devi. The actor recently revealed the profound impact of his mother's death in 1996, which left him in a state of deep distress. Govinda recounted how he once impulsively walked into the Narmada River, imagining he could "meet" his mother again.

Speaking to ANI, he described his overwhelming grief at the time, stating that everything felt over and that life had ended. He admitted to feeling kind of suicidal, being deeply attached to his mother and loving her immensely. However, he clarified that he did not intend to take his own life, as he now understands that life is a continuous cycle.

A priest named Ram Kundal, who came to help him, played a crucial role in his recovery. After more than 15 days of introspection, Govinda realized the importance of living for his children and found a new purpose in life. This experience reshaped his perspective on films, acting, and stardom, leading him to view them as divine manifestations.

Govinda credits his greatest achievement to fulfilling his late mother's wishes, particularly her dream for him when he turned 21. Nirmala Devi, a renowned Hindustani classical vocalist and actress, passed away on June 15, 1996, at the age of 69. Govinda is currently promoting his upcoming film Roopa, starring newcomer Komal Rani Swarnkar.
