Terengganu Bersatu rocked by more resignations as deputy chief quits

KUALA NERUS: Terengganu Bersatu is grappling with a crisis as its deputy chairman, Khazan Che Mat, disclosed plans to resign next week. Khazan, who serves as the state legislative assembly deputy speaker and Kuala Nerus division chief, stated he would not assume the role of acting state chairman following Razali Idris' recent resignation.

He emphasized that he was not seeking positions and had only joined Bersatu in 2016 at Razali's invitation. Razali, also the Kijal assemblyman, announced his resignation as the Terengganu Bersatu chairman and Marang division chief. Following these resignations, Mohd Zawawi Ismail and Mohd Husaimi Hussin, from Telemong and Marang respectively, announced they would step down as information chief and treasurer.

Khazan explained that he only made the resignation announcement today to consider the opinions of committee members and to cover the costs of staffing allowances and office rentals for two months. He acknowledged that some party branches had not held meetings, prompting the central leadership to fill vacant division chief positions, particularly in Besut and Hulu Terengganu.

Notably, Rosol Wahid, the former Hulu Terengganu division chief and Hulu Terengganu MP, had his membership suspended, while Besut division chief Datuk Wan Ariff Rashiddin Rashidin resigned in June. The positions held by Rosol and Wan Ariff Rashiddin remain unfilled, and the Bersatu headquarters has yet to appoint their deputies as acting chiefs.
