Sifuna urges voters to reject experience as sole measure of leadership

Kenyan presidential hopeful Edwin Sifuna has challenged the notion that political experience is the sole measure of a leader's suitability, urging Kenyans to consider a younger generation of leaders in the lead-up to the 2027 General Election. Speaking at a Linda Mwananchi movement rally, Sifuna dismissed the argument that youthful politicians lack the necessary experience to govern, instead emphasizing that Kenya's long-standing problems require political judgment and accountability over years spent in public office.

He highlighted the sugar sector as an example, questioning the experience required to understand the devastation caused by killing sugar mills to grant permits for sugar imports. Sifuna argued that experienced politicians have had ample opportunity to address problems but have instead exacerbated the situation, and urged voters to evaluate leaders based on their ideas, integrity, and ability to deliver rather than solely on their age or years in politics.

The ODM official encouraged Kenyans to give the next generation a chance to demonstrate whether a different approach to leadership could produce better results. Sifuna positioned the Linda Mwananchi movement as a platform for political change, distancing it from the confrontational style that has characterized recent Kenyan politics.

He emphasized that the movement aims to bring political change without conflict, appealing to a broader spectrum of Kenyan voters as the country gears up for the 2027 elections.
