Sifuna promises to revert Mumias back to public, if elected President

During the final day of the Linda Mwananchi tour in the Western region, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, along with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, and Kakamega Governor Boni Khalwale, pledged to restore Mumias to public ownership if elected as President in 2027. The group visited several locations in Mumias, including a church, town rally, markets, and a final stop in Lumakanda.

Sifuna urged people not to focus on his lack of experience, promising to address their problems and enhance their livelihoods. He criticized President William Ruto for allegedly conspiring with private millers to seize State-owned sugar factories and allowing sugar imports while local farmers struggled. Sifuna lamented that the town was once economically prosperous but now suffers due to poor leadership and the closure of the Mumias Sugar Factory.

He advocated for a new generation of leaders and dismissed concerns about his lack of governance experience. Natembeya assured that a Sifuna government would treat all communities equitably, and Osotsi called for the immediate return of the Mumias Sugar Factory to public ownership.
