Security forces kill 15 terrorists in Balochistan IBOs: state media

In a series of intelligence-driven operations in Balochistan, Pakistani security forces recently eliminated 15 terrorists, according to state media reports. These operations took place across multiple locations including Mastung, Bolan, Washuk, Awaran, Sibi, Khuzdar, Harnai, and Nushki. Additionally, a significant amount of weapons and ammunition were seized from the terrorists, as reported by Pakistan TV.

The state describes these operations as a substantial setback for the "khwarij" network, which refers to terrorist elements linked to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan. The term "Fitna al Khawarij" is used by the state to denote these terrorist groups, while "Fitna al Hindustan" is reserved for other terrorist organizations operating within Balochistan.

These recent operations come at a time when Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continue to grapple with security concerns. In a previous statement, the military's media affairs wing disclosed that security forces had killed 32 terrorists in simultaneous operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan within a 24-hour period last month.

Earlier in July, security forces and law enforcement agencies launched Operation Shaban in response to a deadly attack at Mangi Dam pumping station in Ziarat. The assault resulted in the kidnapping and murder of 27 police officers by armed assailants. Following this incident, Operation Al-Azm was initiated in Balochistan after a shooting on a Karachi-bound coach from Quetta claimed the lives of three individuals and left five others injured last week.

A monthly security assessment published by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) in early June revealed a concerning downward trend in the country's security situation. Despite two months of improvement prior to May, Balochistan emerged as the most affected province, witnessing a staggering 109% increase in terrorist attacks compared to the previous month. The province recorded 71 terrorist incidents in May, up from 34 in April.

The assessment also highlighted a disturbing surge in kidnappings, with 52 abductions reported in Balochistan alone during May, underscoring the growing operational reach and confidence of terrorist groups in the region.
