Ronnie Liu joins PBM on return to active politics

Ronnie Liu, a veteran politician with over four decades of service with the Democratic Action Party (DAP), has rejoined active politics by joining Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM). Liu's return to PBM occurred after a three-year absence following his departure from DAP in June 2023. He announced his decision at a press conference alongside Larry Sng, the president of PBM, ending a hiatus that spanned more than four decades of DAP service.

Liu served multiple terms on DAP's central executive committee and was among its longest-serving figures, having first entered the Selangor state assembly in 2008. His decision to join PBM comes after he left DAP due to disagreements over constitutional amendments that he believed undermined democratic dissent within the party. These amendments automatically terminated membership for elected representatives who opposed the party's position on fundamental matters, a stance that Liu argued was inconsistent with democratic principles and could stifle differing views within the party.

Liu's move to PBM signifies a new chapter in his political career, following more than four decades with DAP and a period away from active party politics.
