Publican AI boosts GRA customs revenue to GH¢6.1bn in July – Commissioner-General

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) reported that the implementation of its artificial intelligence-driven Publican AI system has significantly boosted customs revenue, reaching GH¢6.1 billion in July 2026. Commissioner-General Anthony Sarpong shared this update during a courtesy visit to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. Prior to the system's full rollout in April 2026, monthly customs revenue averaged GH¢4 billion.

Since then, revenue has risen to GH¢5.5 billion in June and peaked at GH¢6.1 billion in July, marking a notable GH¢2.1 billion increase. The reforms, aimed at enhancing the valuation of imported goods and revenue mobilisation, have shown steady growth in customs collections. Dr Sarpong credited the success to the cooperation of importers, the business community, and GRA staff.

The Authority is also preparing to introduce a new reform targeting Value Added Tax (VAT) collection, with Parliament approving a project that would require devices at shops and service points to improve VAT administration. Additionally, a taxpayer reward scheme is planned to encourage consumers to request VAT receipts, with details to be announced later.
