PSG sign France full-back Digne from Villa

Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne has agreed to a three-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the current European champions, the club confirmed on Sunday. The 33-year-old French international, who was born and raised in the Paris region, previously played for PSG between 2013 and 2015.

Digne expressed his excitement about returning to his former club, praising the significant progress PSG has made over the years. He stated, "I am very honored to be returning to Paris Saint-Germain. I am particularly impressed by how the club has developed over the years. I can't wait to start this new chapter and put all my experience at the service of the team."

Prior to his time at Aston Villa, Digne spent a season on loan in Serie A with Roma. He also had a stint at Spanish giants Barcelona, under the management of current PSG head coach Luis Enrique. In 2018, he moved to the Premier League with Everton before joining Aston Villa four years later. At Villa Park, he contributed to the team's Europa League triumph under Unai Emery last season.

Digne, who has earned 64 caps for France, was selected as the national team's first-choice left-back throughout the 2026 World Cup. As PSG's newest signing, he is set to make his debut for the club in the UEFA Super Cup against Aston Villa on Wednesday at Salzburg. However, long-term, his primary role will likely be to provide backup to the starting left-back, Nuno Mendes.
