Prison warder arrested for alleged dagga possession and dealing

A 52-year-old prison warder is set to face Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court in connection with allegations of dagga possession and dealing, according to police. The arrest took place on Saturday, 8 August 2026, at the Sasolburg Correctional Centre following a tip-off about a prison staff member suspected of being involved in the illegal trade.

Sergeant Josephine Rani, a police spokesperson, stated that officers found the suspect in his uniform while on duty and seized 803 bags of dagga, estimated to have a street value of R8,050. The individual faces charges of possession and dealing in dagga.
