Pre-season: ‘He doesn’t do any work’ – Mourinho gives verdict on Bernardo Silva

Real Madrid's new coach, Jose Mourinho, has expressed his concerns regarding the fitness levels of newly signed midfielder Bernardo Silva. The 31-year-old Portuguese player joined the Spanish giants on a free transfer this summer, following a successful career at Manchester City. Silva, who netted 76 goals in 460 appearances during his nine seasons at the Etihad, scored seven times in 55 matches during the 2022-23 treble-winning season.

In his final Manchester City campaign, he contributed three goals in 53 games as the club secured both domestic cups and finished second in the Premier League under Pep Guardiola. After participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Portugal was eliminated by Spain in the Round of 16, Silva resumed training. Mourinho acknowledged the importance of the midfielder to the team, but expressed frustration with Silva's apparent lack of work ethic during his vacation, stating that the player is "way below his usual standards" and needs to put in more effort.

Bernardo Silva has signed a two-year contract with Real Madrid, marking the start of his next chapter at the Santiago Bernabeu.
